Introduction
This Workshop on Network Technology is held from 29 Apr to 4 May 2018, in conjunction with the Africa Internet Summit, from 4 to 11 May 2018.
The venue for the workshop is the Radisson Blu in Dakar, Senegal.
The workshop aims to offer advanced training to operators of existing African Internet Service Providers (ISPs) who are participants in the process of developing and enhancing a national Internet with regional and international connectivity.
This workshop builds upon the experiences of the previous AfNOG workshops held in:
- Cape Town (South Africa) in 2000,
- Accra (Ghana) in 2001,
- Lomé (Togo) in 2002,
- Kampala (Uganda) in 2003,
- Dakar (Sénégal) in 2004,
- Maputo (Moçambique) in 2005,
- Nairobi (Kenya) in 2006,
- Abuja (Nigeria) in 2007,
- Rabat (Morocco) in 2008,
- Cairo (Egypt) in 2009,
- Kigali (Rwanda) in 2010,
- Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) in 2011,
- Serrekunda (Gambia) in 2012,
- Lusaka (Zambia) in 2013,
- Djibouti (Djibouti) in 2014,
- Tunis (Tunisia) in 2015,
- Gaborone (Botswana) in 2016,
- Nairobi (Kenya) in 2017,
and the Internet Society's INET workshops held from 1993 to 2000 at eight locations around the world.

Goals
The goals of the Workshop are:
- To train a critical mass of trainers and professionals in network infrastructure and services to be able to support an extension of Internet-related activities within the African countries represented.
- To identify and share individual and institutional contacts as well as information sources that will assist the process of national development, using international Internet connections.
- To build robust professional linkages between all participants in the programs so that the mentor-student and colleague-colleague relationships formed during the workshop and conferences will remain strong and of continuing usefulness well beyond the workshop and conference.
- To increase the level of co-operation among existing projects and activities for establishing public data networks in Africa.
- To train people and groups of people who will return to their country and region and who will teach others what they have learned at the workshop.
Workshop tracks / Thèmes des ateliers
An intensive program of instruction is planned for the workshop, composed of instructional tracks in English and in French. Participants attend only one of the tracks, since the tracks run concurrently. All participants will engage in extensive hands-on training, setting up and managing prototype infrastructure and services.
