Symmetric ciphers

• In symmetric ciphers the same key is used to encrypt and decrypt the data.

• Examples of symmetric cyphers:

• • DES, 56bit key length
  • 3DES, effectively 112bits
  • AES, 128 – 256 bit key length
  • Blowfish, 128 bits
  • Idea, 128 bits
