L3 switching is the most highly scalable campus backbone technology.
Because L3 switching employs sophisticated L3 routing protocols such as OSPF or EIGRP, load balancing across all redundant links is supported. L3 routing protocols can also be tuned to provide very fast deterministic convergence in the event of a failure.
