Administrative Distance

• Routes can be learned via more than one protocol.

  • used to discriminate between them

• Route with lowest is installed in IP routing table

• BGP defaults:

  • local (routes originated on router): 200
  • eBGP: 20
  • iBGP: 200

• Does not influence the BGP path selection algorithm, but influences whether BGP-learned routes are installed in the IP routing table.
