SOA record

• Every zone has exactly one SOA record

• The domain name at the top of the zone owns the SOA record

• Data portion of SOA record contains:

  • MNAME - name of master nameserver
  • RNAME - email address of zone administrator
  • SERIAL - serial number
  • REFRESH RETRY EXPIRE MINIMUM - timing parameters
